The Painted Stair
The Painted Stair plays every city on the Logathriad Sea on a circuit lasting years. Most of its repertoire is hero plays. Its four core members are known by name across the whole sea.
Marek
Marek, a human, writes for the company and runs it. He works the hero plays up from the old songs. He says the plays carry the songs to more people than the songs would reach alone.
Marek tailors each piece for the city the troupe is currently entertaining. People who have seen the same play in two different cities often argue about what they saw.
Belen
Belen, a city elf, usually plays heroes. Halls sell out when she plays, and hers is the name called from the audience. She has played the same few famous heroes for years, in cities that know heroes from the stage. Most people on the Logathriad Sea have watched Belen play a hero.
Hollis
Hollis, a devil plays the monsters. She has played the monsters in every company she has ever worked for. Other companies say she is the finest actor on the circuit, and audiences come just to see her perform.
Gethin
Gethin, a city elf, sings the old hero songs, and the plays are made from them. He opens the performances and acts with song. Older audiences come for the songs, and younger ones come for the play.
Gethin maintains that the songs have been written and passed down for eighteen centuries and that the plays are wearing them away. He says so from the stage, and he and Marek have argued it for about twenty years.
