Within living memory, an Ossivar pilot boat sank in Nirakh’s channel with the men of the Ardan family aboard, and the bodies went into the bay. Nirakh leaves its own dead in the bay and refused to return the Ossivar dead. The Ardans sailed to Nirakh, and most of the other pilot families went with them.

The Ossivar boats came up Nirakh’s channel at night and fought inside the bay to bring the bodies out. The dead of both sides went into the water. Nirakh recorded the year in stone as a desecration of the bay, and the two cities have had no dealings since.

A monster surge came out of the desert that year and reached Ossivar. The men who hold the city against a monster surge were at Nirakh, so the city emptied onto the water with nobody holding the ground behind it, and a large part of Ossivar died in the evacuation. Ossivar names the monster surge for the Ardans.
